"I'm so glad I survived,' says Betty Oudkerk on her granddaughter's 18th birthday. I have just met one of my rescued children."
Betty Oudkerk is a child caretaker in the nursery opposite the Hollandsche Schouwburg during WW2. She helps to save about 600 Jewish children from the hands of the Nazis.
When the crèche is closed and Amsterdam is declared 'Judenrein', she decides to go into hiding. Unfortunately, she is arrested, but is stillable to survive though her courage and ability to improvise. But that does not apply to her other family members... They are gassed in Auschwitz extermination camp.
Judith was a guest in program M on the occasion of the death of her mother Betty.
