"Then the SS stood in front of grandpa and grandma's kosher butcher shop. They pound hard on the shutters. It sounds like they're pounding through the wood of the shutters.
Her family is inside. They know that when the SS comes in, they will be arrested. There are never enough loose floorboards tohide under together.
There is nowhere for them to go. Nobody makes a sound. And then the pounding stops. They breathe a sigh of relief when all of a sudden they hear a murmur at the door... The SS is trying to get in! An icy cold goes through the room and everyone holds their breath.
But then an unadulterated Amsterdam voice of one of the neighbors sounds: 'Those shutters of the butcher's shop have been closed for a long time, you've alreadyarrested those people!
It remains silent for a moment. And then they heard the footsteps of the SS leaving again".
